Funky, Modern, Zen….

These 3 words from the client brief formed the basis of my thought process throughout the duration of this project.

When I first met the client on-site, it was obvious that the townhouse had loads of potential. It was light and bright, thought had been put into the finishing and detail of the build…..but with a predominantly grey scheme, there was something lacking. It needed warmth, it needed layers and it needed texture!

Cue rich warm leather, textured wool rugs and funky terrazzo (who doesn’t love a bit of Terrazzo right now?). Dress it up with a chunky throw, layer with a combination of patterned, embroidered and linen cushions and compliment with fresh greens, fun prints and hints of brass!

The Frame TV which displays art instead of a light-absorbing black screen was the perfect solution for above the entertainment unit – an idea my client came up with (a great example of how the best results are achieved when a client and designer work closely together)!

It was important to me to have an overall softness to the living space to give it that Zen, retreat-like feel my client was seeking. While it would have been easy to treat the windows with roller blinds we opted for floor to ceiling drapes, separating the lining and sheer face fabric to allow a soft ambient light to filter through during the day.

Heading upstairs to the bedrooms, we added impact to the Master with rich colour in the bedding, softening this with layers of cooler tones and then adding a sense of space with a large arch-shaped mirror.

Bedroom 2 contrasts this with restful shades of green and neutrals and added texture in the headboard and cushions.

Don’t forget the Powder Room - It could have been overlooked and as a long narrow space we could have played it safe…. But where’s the fun in that?  So instead we went all out – monkeys, toucans, texture and warmth! And if you are going to do it, do it everywhere - Feature walls had no place in this powder room, we wanted a feature room!!!

After initially being recommended to contact Comber and Comber by a friend I was very impressed with the furniture selection that was recommended by Amy that fitted my new townhouse perfectly and was exactly what I was looking for. Amy was always quick to answer emails and provide updates with every step of the way and went above and beyond to answer any queries I had and help me to achieve what I was looking for in my new place. I love how they also came and set everything up including hanging the art and styling each room ready to enjoy- the full package. I knew the kind of look I was after but had no idea what colours, textures would work and was absolutely stoked with the design, colour choice that Amy and her team come up with. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an interior design fit-out and I will be definitely using them in my next place as it is totally worth it.
